For me, modern and abstract art offers the freedom to express myself with simplicity and an inner sense that anything is possible. I find inspiration in everyday situations, in colours and in what I experience as beautiful. When I stand before the canvas, I listen within and allow the process to unfold.

MY STORY
An artistic journey allowed to unfold freely.
Susanne Grahn grew up in a small village north of Luleå in Norrbotten and has lived in Åkersberga for many years. Her artistic journey is closely intertwined with a period when her life changed dramatically following a horse-riding accident. Painting became a way to give creativity more space. She sought out courses and training that could help her find what she was looking for, but has said that the decisive change came when she dared to let go of expectations and place greater trust in her own feelings and expression. Her fascination with abstract art began much earlier. In her childhood home, there was an abstract painting that Susanne remembers as an explosion of colours. It brought her joy and made a strong impression. Somewhere within her, the idea already existed that one day she would create abstract works of her own. Today, she primarily works with non-representational abstract art, in which colours and forms do not have to depict anything specific. The viewer’s own imagination becomes part of the experience, and Susanne enjoys how different people can discover entirely different stories in the same painting. Her process often begins simply: with a colour, a format or an emotion. Inspiration may come from everyday life and from things she experiences as beautiful. When she stands before the canvas, she tries to listen within and let the work develop step by step. The result is not always planned in detail from the outset. Colour combinations, forms, texture and movement emerge during the process and are allowed to influence the next decision. That freedom is also what Susanne appreciates about modern and abstract art: there is no single rule for how creativity must be used. A recurring aim is to convey joy, love and a feeling that makes the viewer pause. This does not mean that all the works look the same. The catalogue and archive include calmer fields of colour, stronger contrasts, smaller works and very large canvases. What they share lies more in the working method and in the desire to create an open image that gives you, the viewer, space. For Susanne, it is a particular joy when someone else sees something in a painting that she herself had not predetermined. The studio is located at Sköldvägen 2 in Åkersberga. Visits can be arranged by appointment, and Susanne has regularly held an open studio in connection with Konst i Roslagen. Her exhibition history includes Stockholm, Nyköping, Göteborg, Österlen, Öland and exhibitions in Spain. For 2026, the imported exhibition schedule includes Konst i Roslagen in Åkersberga and Affordable Art Fair Stockholm. The exhibitions page provides a more detailed timeline and up-to-date information. In addition to original paintings, Susanne offers Fine Art Prints of selected motifs. On her previous website, she describes them as signed quality prints with a certificate stamp and serial number. She also accepts enquiries about commissions. The starting point may be a room, preferred dimensions, a colour palette or a particular feeling. The aim is not to copy an earlier work, but to create something personal that also carries her own expression. In this way, the art is both personal and open. It has grown out of Susanne’s own life journey, but is not intended to confine the viewer to her story. When a work leaves the studio and enters a new home, it gains new surroundings, new light and new associations. It is this continuing relationship between the work, the space and the viewer that keeps abstract art alive over time.

Where is Susanne from?
